It is supposedly the largest and tallest ferris wheel in the world. As high as a 30-story building, this monstrosity sits in Odaiba, a new part of Tokyo with lots of shopping and home to some of the high-tech companies in Japan. This is the best picture I could wangle out of my borrowed digital camera. Tokyo’s a great city and the more we look around, the more convinced we are that the Philippines will never catch up — at least not within our lifetime. I guess we don’t have to develop to this point. There’s a price for all of this and I’m not sure we’re ready to pay. It would be nice though to see Manila grow into a city like this. Well, we can dream, can’t we?
that's a really cool picture! thanks for hosting our christmas party! any sign of christmas there in tokyo?

Sorry I have been remiss in reading lately, congrats on the Tokyo trip.
Perhaps the short-term visitor sees it differently but having lived in Tokyo three years I can't recommend it as a city for Manila to emulate. My hopes for the Philippines are that some good Japanese ideas can be copied - a great public transpo system for example, a requirement that a purchaser have a parking space available before being allowed to by a car, junk vehicles strictly removed from the roads, etc., but my gosh, the air quality!! Didn't you notice the many 500 foot high garbage burner smoke stacks … hello, it doesn't matter if you push the pollutants higher, they still have to fall to earth somewhere, the trash burners on every balcony, thousands upon thousands of small diesel trucks making independent deliveries (solar power anyone), etc.
Best regards
Dave
